This mini session will introduce TIMWOODS, a simple but powerful tool for identifying the eight common forms of waste that affect projects, processes, and everyday work. Most leaders have watched it happen at some point. A team that has delivered well for years suddenly starts struggling. Communication gets harder. Conflict shows up more often. People who used to be your strongest contributors go quiet or start pulling back. You look at the situation and it reads like a performance problem. In most cases, it is a pressure problem.
What makes it hard to catch early is that high performers do not fall apart visibly. Under sustained stress or uncertainty, they trigger neurological responses that quietly degrade judgment, close down communication, and erode the trust the team needs to function. The more capable the person, the more contained the shutdown tends to look from the outside – which is exactly why most leaders miss it until the team is already in a difficult place.
This session is built around that reality. Over 25 years of working with organizations through transformation, pressure, and change, the dynamics are consistent. And so are the tools that actually help. Participants work through the three neurological responses that drive this kind of dysfunction, a five-question diagnostic to figure out what is actually broken when a team is struggling, and the DESC framework for the difficult conversations that most leaders either avoid or handle in ways that make things worse. Practical, specific, and grounded in real situations – not theory alone.
People leave this session with tools they can use with their own teams the same week.
Tanya Dent
Tanya Dent is a leader in Continuous Improvement (CI) and business transformation, currently serving as a Business Transformation Lead at a major utility. She brings experience in driving change and fostering hybrid ways of working to streamline processes and improve team collaboration. Tanya is the President-Elect of the Nova Scotia Chapter and been on the board since 2017, contributing in roles ranging from Communications, Events and Operations.
At the utility, Tanya leads initiatives that integrate CI and transformation principles to address challenges with an agile “ish” perspective, optimizing processes to achieve better business outcomes. Over the last four years on the PMINS board, Tanya has introduced improvements that have unified the board into a more cohesive and efficient team, recognizing that continuous improvement never ends. She has earned her PMP and various micro-credentials in transformation and change, further solidifying her expertise in these areas.
Tanya is passionate about helping boards recognize that if they don’t take care of themselves, they cannot effectively take care of their members. Helping chapters reduce chaos, foster collaboration, and achieve improvement. Her work involves delivering conference talks, facilitating workshops, and speaking engagements that guide leaders through their unique journeys, centred on incremental improvements focusing on process and people.
Ori Schibi
Ori Schibi, has over 25 years’ experience providing practical new ways of leading sustainable change through ambiguous conditions, managing projects and programs and helping organizations maximize the benefits from agile. As a visionary thought leader, Ori introduces practical ideas in areas related to project sponsorship, project management offices, connecting change initiatives to projects, and collaboration — within and across — projects. Ori has been engaged in ensuring that agile rollouts take place in the context of the organizational change they introduce — to ensure alignment and success.
Large to mid-sized organizations (including telecoms, financial services, pharmaceuticals, entertainment and aerospace) have benefited from Ori’s innovative approach to value creation, efficiencies, collaboration and focusing on customer satisfaction (including Disney, Marriott, Phillips, and Amex).
