Topic: Using Kanban to Manage Up  When a Fortune 25 company with nearly 500 factories worldwide wanted to bring all their factories online to allow for data aggregation and predictive analytics, our team was called into action. With a background in Cyber Counterintelligence and Data Analytics, my team of 4 mid and senior level security personnel tackled the work of applying security controls and validating that the controls were functioning as required.  The initial business case we developed estimated (with the team's current Work-in-Process (WIP) Limit and Cycle Time calculations) that the project would take 25 years.  Our team used Kanban primarily since we had ~500 unique pieces of work that needed to pass through several stages and we could set entry and exit requirements to move things across the Kanban board and identify our choke points.  We then presented various recommendations on how the workflow could be improved. Each option included a costs and benefits analysis for limiting the WIP and decreasing Cycle Time. Using Kanban, we were able to resist unrealistic deadlines and expectations and manage up in the process.
