Speaker: Robert Osmond
Bob Osmond is the Information Technology Division (ITD) Administrator for the Virginia Department of Transportation where he leads a team of 230 staff that support 175 applications for 7500 users. Prior to VDOT, Bob was a partner & led application development and human capital management practices in IBM Global Business Consulting Services.
Project managers and IT practitioners often find themselves at odds with our peers and less technical business colleagues. Interactions and communications can become emotion-laden and often result in nonproductive conflict, bruised egos, and even strained relationships. We can't control others but what we can control is ourselves and our response to verbal conflict. This presentation provides a test for determining when a conversation has transitioned from casual to high stakes; a technique for getting ourselves under control in the heat of the moment; and a series of interventions (developed by John Heron) to shape the way that we engage to improve our outcomes.
