Intro to Agile and Scrum, plus PMI and Scrum: Oil and Water or Can They Co-Exist?
Presenter:
Hosted by Agile Richmond
Sheraton Park South Hotel, 9901 Midlothian Turnpike Richmond, VA 23235

Summary:

PMBOK is a 400-page book describing 44 management processes within 12 knowledge areas published by PMI as the standard for Project Management. Scrum is often depicted on one page. The Agile Manifesto, the founding and guiding document for Scrum, is documented in less than 3 pages. Project Management is a practice that is mature, well understood, highly organized and universally applied. Scrum is new, highly reactive, subject to interpretation and still somewhat “cutting edge.” Seems like oil and water – or is it?

Join us for a 6-hour workshop hosted by Agile Richmond to explore the reality of project execution as seen through Agile and PMI. We start with an Introduction to Agile and Scrum. Then, move into the Oil and Water exploration where we will examine Agile/Scrum principles and their alignment to the basic principles of PMI/PMBOK. Together, we will identify what works, what doesn’t and what should change.

As a Project Management Professional and PMI member, you have probably been hearing about Agile in the workplace. Perhaps you have had some exposure and are intrigued and, perhaps, skeptical. This session is squarely aimed at those who want to know what all this Agile stuff is about and how it fits into the PM world. By the end of the day, you will be capable of being an Agile team member and will have a good understanding of how Scrum works. Agile is changing the way project management is thought about in our world. Here’s a chance to “jump start” your journey in understanding and applying these changes.
