January 2010 - President's Letter

2010 is upon us.

First, I want to extend my thanks all the chapter members, volunteers, and board members who have contributed so much time and energy into making PMI CVC an outstanding organization!  Your efforts were recognized by PMI as we were awarded the 2009 Component of the Year Award (for Chapter Size Category III). We were also awarded the 2009 Component Award for Volunteer Program of the Year. These are both outstanding achievements and notable that we have repeated our Component of the year award.

Second, thank you to all the chapter members, volunteers, and board members who will contribute so much time and energy into keeping PMI CVC an outstanding organization! I am honored to serve as President in 2010 with such passionate professionals. We weathered a challenging year in 2009 and that energy served us well.

Our Chapter Vision is “To be the premier professional project management organization … in Central Virginia.”  I truly believe we are!

I challenge you to make the most of your membership, earn inexpensive yet valuable PDUs, stay current with PM knowledge and best practices, meet a wide variety of fellow professionals, and most of all volunteer.  Join the fun of working closely with PM’s from various backgrounds, and feel the satisfaction of bringing benefits to fellow members and our community.
.
2010 will continue to be a challenging year for some of our members as the current economy impacts our local companies.  Reach out to your PMI friends.  Keep an eye out for opportunities and recommend our members.  Look to the chapter website for more information and subscribe to the job email list we have available.

Recap of 2009

I would like to thank our volunteers for another successful year. We continued to find ways to improve member value:

  • By keeping expenses low we met our budget goals.
  • Continued with our award-winning Certification Workshops. We delivered 2 events.
  • Maintained our membership levels, while most associations in the US are declining.
  • Conducted 11 professional development seminars, 19 chapter meetings, 2 certification workshops.
  • Delivered 3 career workshops.
  • Developed and delivered a jobs email list for members.
  • Rolled out a new version of our web site that will provide a foundation for members-only services in 2010.
  • Piloted a successful “Seminar at Sea” to earn PDUs while cruising to the Bahamas.
  • Introduced our 30 minute PM meetings on the West End.

Looking Forward to 2010

Our volunteers are working to bring us:

  • A top notch volunteer appreciation event in January
